Trump Doesn't Fit the 'Monster' and 'Monarch' Portrait People Paint
I have always been baffled by people who say if former President Donald Trump is reelected, they’re leaving the country because he’s a monster. Those who say that if he becomes president again, he’ll turn the country into a monarchy and never leave the White House are just as confusing. I don’t get it. Did they not live in the America I lived in while he was in office? He was no monster before or after he became president, and he isn’t one now. He also isn’t interested in being a monarch. So can we cut the drama?
First of all, let’s be clear: nobody who said the first time around that if Trump became president, they were vacating the country ever did, and none of them is leaving if he wins this time.
Now that we have obvious detail #1 out of the way, let’s move on to obvious detail #2. Under Trump, we had energy independence, border control, a good economy, healthy respect around the world, the dismantling of ISIS, more money in our pockets, criminal justice reform, record-low unemployment in the black community, permanent funding for HBCUs, justices to the Supreme Court set in who overturned Roe v. Wade, restoring sanity to the conversation about life. Those are just a few of the accomplishments of the Trump administration. Yes, he made some mistakes, particularly where Anthony Fauci is concerned, but it’s still not a stretch to say he was one of the greatest presidents the nation has ever had. I’ve heard some say the greatest.
Having said that, I understand that he riled people up with “mean tweets.” But I’m not willing to disregard his good work because he needed to show more keyboard discipline.
Monster mythologists, facts matter. “Mean” Trump did chant “Look her up,” referring to Hillary Clinton, who got away with all kinds of mess. Sure, his supporters used the phrase themselves, angering the left. But did Trump go after her when he got into office? Much to the chagrin of others who are tired of the Clintons not being held accountable for anything, he did not. He didn’t have it in him to do so.
