Pat Robertson’s ‘Christian’ Legacy Is Undeniable
Pat Robertson, 93, passed away Thursday, and though some have taken this time to honor him and others have used it to criticize him, every single mention of his death includes the legacy he wanted to leave. More than being the founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), more than having been a minister, more than being a presidential candidate at one time, and more than lifting his voice for faith in politics, he was a Christian. Every outlet and every person speaking of him on the day he transitioned from earth to his eternal home does not fail to mention that. This is, in fact, what defined him, and is, therefore, his legacy. One cannot speak his name today and leave that out.
It makes me think. How will I be remembered? Is representing Christ the one thing no one could omit when describing me? Do I Iive in such a way that believers and nonbelievers alike know for sure I am a believer?
Robertson lived that kind of life, and while many of us spend our lives focused on a plethora of nonsense, he seemed to know what the real focus should be: the Lord Jesus Christ and the Gospel, which means “good news.” While those who loved him or were impacted by him mourn that he is no longer with us, they are to be mindful that 2 Corinthians 5:8 says they can be “confident” that “to be absent from the body” is “to be present with the Lord.” And that is, indeed, good news that Robertson knows better than anyone still here on this earth.
