Hannity a Poor Moderator, Newsom an Arrogant Operator, and DeSantis a Picture of Poise in 'The Great Red vs. Blue State Debate'
Questions following political debates usually start with this one: “Who won?” Thursday night’s debate between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, entitled “The Great Red vs. Blue State Debate,” was no exception. I have heard many say DeSantis won the crown, but I don’t believe either man won-won. I do believe, however, that Hannity, who moderated the Fox News debate, lost.
DeSantis was the epitome of poise as he faced someone clearly a formidable politician. And that is no praise of Newsom. I can’t stand politics as usual, and I don’t stomach typical politicians, either. Their clothes look good, their hair is slick, and their tongue is silver; they’re smooth. Some, however, manage not to be as arrogant as Newsom. As I watched last night, I dubbed him “the white Obama.” But even Obama wasn’t that arrogant. Newsom smirked, batted his eyes, bobbed his head, and was quite proud of his own condescension. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a politician [pretend to be?] that sure of himself, to be honest.
DeSantis, on the other hand, is not so smooth. He’s actually quite awkward. But it’s obvious he means what he says and has the record to prove it. He symbolizes the right people running for office for the right reasons—to get good things done. If I were to give him my thumbs-up as winner it wouldn’t be because he had the facts on his side. I mean, everybody paying a modicum of attention knows what a mess California is. There’s a reason there’s a mass exodus out of the state. If DeSantis won the debate, as far as I’m concerned, it’s mostly because he was able to maintain his poise through the sneering, snickering, and sickening manner in which Newsom conducted himself. It would be for continuing to make his points and not shut up as Newsom repeatedly interrupted, for remaining focused as the California governor refused to answer the questions Hannity posed— instead, using his time to speak about whatever he wanted, which was to paint DeSantis as a bigoted, book-banning, women-hating, homophobic neanderthal.
