Don't You Let Politics Ruin Thanksgiving!
Here it is—the message I have begun sharing yearly right before Thanksgiving and heading into Christmas: don’t y’all let politics ruin your holiday!
I don’t care how deep your loyalty to Donald Trump runs, don’t let defending his character cause you to get into it with somebody. Wait…let me say it like some of our black mommas say it: “Don’t you be no fool!” No matter how much you love what President Biden has accomplished and desire to defend his record… Oh, wait! I doubt that’ll be a problem! See what I did there? That’s an example of what not to say if you know it’ll set somebody off. No matter what it takes to avoid a family fight—and to be sure to get some sweet potato pie—it’s worth it.

Do not allow what happened to me on Thanksgiving 2008 happen to you. Politicians and election cycles come and go, but family lasts forever—or at least it should. So if you have to excuse yourself, do that. Everybody will have been eating, not to mention drinking egg nog (and we know what that does to a person!), so no one will think twice if you run buck wild for the toilet. Stay there until it passes—the tension, that is!

And if worse comes to worst and there’s no way to get away or to change the conversation, there’s one word that will save the day—guaranteed. I spelled it out last year in an episode of The Adrienne Ross Show. Take time to watch below, or listen on a podcast platform. It just might save your family—and I’m not even joking!
