Asbury Revival Reveals the Enemy Has Not Won the Battle for the Young
It’s awesome to behold what God is doing at Asbury University. Of course, whenever God moves, it’s awesome. But one thing that stands out to me here is how He manages to reveal His power right in the face of a culture that has delved deeper in its diabolical mission to mock everything the Lord calls holy. It uses everything and anything to draw away young people, to rob them of truth, kill their innocence, and…send them to hell. But look at God! This revival, as it’s being called, loudly proclaims that when His Spirit draws, there’s no deception, no devil, and no darkness that can stop people from responding with their very lives.
Young people are always the enemy’s target. It’s not new. It’s just more intense and more blatant. Yet these young ones have always been dear to God’s heart. Scripture lets us know how much God loves them, that He will fight for them, and that He wants them to come to Him unhindered.
Yet we watch with horror what’s going on in public schools, in political parties, even in homes—utter ridiculousness. Our hearts break that they are being deceived. And then…Asbury. And then, we’re reminded that God said that in the last days, He would do powerful things in the lives of “sons and daughters.” We’re reminded that our youth are not hopeless, despite what the drastic downfall in this culture has caused many to believe. I find it absolutely amazing that the very ones who appear to have been turned from seeking God cannot get enough of His presence right now, cannot bring themselves to leave the place where they are encountering Him. They’re repenting of sins in a culture that has lied to them by telling them sin doesn’t even exist. They’re crying out to a God whom culture says is a figment of their imaginations. And if they didn’t recognize the lies before, they sure do now.
And even more beautiful is that it’s spreading to other campuses, to K-12 institutions, to churches in a new way. And I’m ecstatic that God is not limiting Himself to the young. He’s still a “whosoever will” God. So count me in on this move of the Spirit.
Many of us saw coverage of the Grammy satanic show and were angry and horrified—and rightly so. But God was not worried. He knows Who He is and will do what He has promised. He sure is doing a special something in Asbury and beyond. As His Word declares, He has a plan for the last days. Yes, this world has ramped up its mockery of Him by going after the most vulnerable, but God is stirring hearts and transforming lives—and doing it in a way that He and He alone gets the glory.
